Cycling on iPhone and Apple Watch

Cycling apps for Apple Watch.

der-hipster.de plans routes, Viberide navigates and records. Cycling AI, FTP & W/kg and Training Load & Recovery help before and after the ride.

This page focuses on cycling

The general Apple Watch sport-app overview explains Apple's Workout app, HealthKit, WorkoutKit and tools for several sports. This page connects route planning, navigation and four cycling apps.

One routing system, two ways to use it

The same routing system runs on der-hipster.de and in Viberide. It uses OpenStreetMap and gives signposted cycle routes more weight than an arbitrary short connection.

Use der-hipster.de to plan in a browser, compare routes and download GPX. Use Viberide to plan in the app, navigate offline, view sensor data and record the ride.

  • TOUR: signposted cycle routes may be worth a useful detour
  • ROAD: paved routes and direct lines take priority
  • MTB: gravel, natural surfaces and rideable trails take priority

Bike GPS & Maps: Viberide

Plan routes, navigate offline and record rides on iPhone and Apple Watch. Bluetooth sensors add power, heart rate and cadence.

Cycling AI – Bike Trainer

The app analyses cycling workouts in Apple Health and suggests a suitable next session. Structured workouts can be loaded into the Apple Watch Workout app.

FTP & W/kg Cycling Power

The app estimates FTP across cycling workouts, shows Apple's FTP values and calculates W/kg from body mass stored in Apple Health. It also includes scheduled FTP tests, widgets and watch complications.

Training Load & Recovery

Place workouts, Apple Effort Score, TRIMP, HRV and resting heart rate in context and follow longer-term trends.

Which cycling workouts are available on Apple Watch?

Apple's Workout app records an open cycling session. Cycling AI adds structured work and recovery intervals. Viberide handles maps, routes and live sensor data during the ride; FTP & W/kg and Training Load & Recovery focus on what happened afterwards.

How can I see FTP on Apple Watch?

FTP & W/kg reads cycling workouts and available power values from Apple Health. It presents FTP and watts per kilogram over time and in widgets and Apple Watch complications.

Shared data source

Apple Health links the apps, but they remain separate. You decide which Health categories each app may read or write. Current prices and in-app purchases are listed in each App Store entry.
